In the past three years, there have been an annual average of approximately 190,000 road accidents in Israel, of which approximately 56,000 were road accidents with casualties, approximately 81,000 were injured, and approximately 343 were killed. In addition to the serious harm to human life and the suffering caused to the injured and their families, road accidents create a heavy economic burden on the Israeli economy. This study, conducted by the consulting firm BDO for the National Road Safety Authority and DeMarker, examines the economic implications of road accidents in Israel on the national economy.

The study's findings indicate that the economic cost of road accidents in Israel is approximately NIS 17 billion per year, which constitutes approximately 1.3% of the national product. This cost includes bodily and mental harm of NIS 9.5 billion for approximately 80,000 victims in road accidents, property damage of NIS 5.5 billion from approximately 330,000 vehicles that were damaged, and damage to the national product of NIS 2 billion due to the loss of 13 million working hours, in addition to the resulting effects on productivity in the economy. These estimates are approximately NIS 3 billion higher than the findings of the Ministry of Transportation methodology, which ignores the effect of lost working hours on productivity in the economy, and does not include the costs of accidents without casualties.

Over the past 7 years, the cost of accidents to the national economy has remained at a similar level and has not shown a downward trend, despite the contribution of technological improvements and the introduction of safety systems to reduce the number of accidents, and despite the contribution of the doubling of the volume of traffic reports. In our opinion, the use of smartphones while driving, along with a decrease in the capital stock of investments in road infrastructure, are the main factors that have prevented a decrease in the economic cost of road accidents in recent years.

In Israel, one in five road accidents this year were related to the use of a smartphone while driving. Survey findings from the National Road Safety Authority show that approximately 38%-55% of drivers use a smartphone while driving, while international studies show that the estimated probability of an accident while using a smartphone is 10 times higher. The cost to the economy of road accidents related to distraction due to smartphone use was estimated at approximately 3.2 billion NIS in 2019. Therefore, a national emergency plan is required for the development and adoption of technologies, education and outreach, tailored enforcement, and incentives to reduce the use of smartphones while driving.

The idea for which the fundraising is requested is a product that every citizen will be required to install and, once installed, will make it more difficult for the driver of the vehicle to commit traffic offenses, including offenses of touching the cell phone while driving, so that ultimately this product will prevent the driver from committing the offense. This will prevent potential road accidents and stop the carnage on the roads - today there are deaths on the roads every day. My ambition is that the number of deaths on the roads will decrease drastically and by about 90 percent.

If the project is successful thanks to your donation - the costs of deaths and injuries and the costs to the economy will be low and thus a lot of money will be directed to places that need funding, such as the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the police, the army...

This campaign is designed to raise an initial sum to finance the costs of building the business plan and producing the product in the initial stage, in addition to paying salaries to the developers and establishing a headquarters office to create the product in order to eventually market it and to present the finished product to the general public in order to raise funding through the stock exchange and finally establish a company that will market the product to the entire population at a discounted price.
